  1. American Life, SODO Builders and Freiheit & Ho Architects celebrate the topping out of the second phase of Home Plate Center. Located directly adjacent to Safeco Field, the heart of this mixed-use office and retail complex is a public plaza oriented toward the Homeplate gate of the stadium. The dynamic design and multi-colored facades of this building campus are an expression of the high energy character of its location at the nexus between the Port of Seattle and interstate highway and rail lines. The entire project is expected to be ready for occupancy November of this year, providing 167,000 SF of new office space and 18,000 SF of new retail space to the SODO neighborhood.

Construction has been moved forward with the successful application of many new techniques. The first use of Gilken press-in method to install sheet piles in this area allowed a waterproof sub-grade parking garage to be constructed with no disturbance to surrounding neighbors. Extensive use of hydrophobic concrete completes the water barrier, and has even been extended to take the place of conventional roofing systems. Home Plate Center is anticipating LEED® Gold certification upon completion.
